“Kavanaugh Night,” Tim Jacob, acrylic. I can’t mention nocturnes without featuring the paintings of my good friend and childhood neighbor, Tim Jacob. Tim has created a series of night scenes around Little Rock and beyond, most of which are wet with rain on pavement. Spectacular color and reflected light. The orbs of light mimic the spheres of foliage. I most admire these panoramic canvases. An aspect ratio so much wider than tall. I’ve watched Tim work. He lifts color from his palette, and gently places little puddles on the surface, and leaves them there. The stippled effect is achieved by evaporation. As the water in the acrylic escapes into the air, the suspended pigment collects at the edges of the puddles. A unique method that distinguishes Tim’s work. Visit Tim at timjacob.com
