You who are familiar with Victor Hugo’s “Les Misérables” will recognize the imagery. Jean has stolen the Bishop’s silver candlesticks. What happens next? How did the Bishop respond? This design was debated among the admin staff, but ultimately approved. I thought it was a strong, dramatic image that would command attention while reflecting an essential aspect of the story. Some thought it didn’t depict the scope of the production. I understood that, but I’ve also learned that sometimes the general must flow from the specific. The detail can command the whole.
