“Dutchman,” 2019. I made this a couple years ago, never been printed. I’m interested in the idea of creating outdoor still life compositions. Notice how the gesture of the sprig in the jar echos the split trunk of the tree beyond. The berries and leaves are Nandina, an attractive bush, but the berries are toxic and will sicken or kill small songbirds. I had a flush of them invade my yard and cut them out. The title “Dutchman” refers to the bow-tie shaped key fastening the supporting tabletop to its “breadboard” end-cap.
