Balthus

I’m grateful for the positive responses I’ve received from sharing representative works by artists I admire. This French painter styled himself Count Balthusar Klowsinski de Rolla (even the spelling thereof is disputed), but he’s most known as simply Balthus. Here’s a young girl contemplating the countryside beyond her window. I’m drawn to doorways, windows and mirrors. Visual pathways from one environment to the next, a recurring theme in my own efforts. The landscape in the window frame is one composition, set inside the larger frame of the interior. Two paintings in one.
